Darkest Rose RP
Continued...
The cobblestone road sloped steadily toward the harbor where boats bobbed up and down upon the undulating waves. On the edge of the harbor itself sat anchored a magnificent ship with no colors flying. That was the Mystic's Dream, the ship of Captain Sybil, lady pirate. That was also the ship that they were attempting to reach without getting caught by the guardsmen.
As the two women ran, men ran past them, a smattering of guardsmen in their red coats among the fisherman, cobblers, merchants, and sailmakers. None took heed of two women, assuming that they were running for their lives from the mad pirates who had snuck into the mansion in the dead of night. Still, Sybil and Jane made certain to hold their skirts low enough that no one passing would be able to see the boots beneath the hems of their gowns. Let alone the dagger that was hidden in the top of Jane's supple leather boot.
Being ignored was both a blessing and a disheartening experience. Jane had expected to at least be questioned, since they were the only women on the roadway. However, it seemed that their descriptions and other information had not made it this far yet. Sybil was glad for this and perfectly happy to continue on to her ship without being impeded by a bunch of dimwit guards.
Once they reached the end of the private residences, Sybil set a staying hand upon Jane's shoulder. Slipping to a stop, Jane followed her captain's line of sight. Hidden within the deep shadow of one of the houses/cottages was a person with long hair. A flowing shirt waved in the soft warm breeze that wafted up from the sea. This was not good, although the multitudes of men charging toward the mansion had said nothing, this man seemed to have other ideas.
Kneeling down, Jane reached beneath her skirt, complaining loudly of shoddy workmanship and cobblestone roads. As she said these things, apologizing to the ship's cobbler in her head, she pulled the short dagger from its resting place in the top of her left boot. Sybil made a show of helping Jane stand, though her eyes never left the shadowed figure.
Jane, now standing without help, nonchalantly flipped the dagger in her hand so that her slender fingers now held the blade instead of the hilt. Sybil was still staring at the shadows, muttering to herself under her breath. Jane could now see that, though the hair was long and feminine, the figure was no doubt very masculine. The stranger was long and lean, the hair strangely magnifying, instead of taking away from, the masculinity.
Sybil's hand strayed to Jane's right forearm as the man moved his hand toward his own belt. Without further debate on the matter, Jane's left hand brought up the dagger, before the man knew what was happening, the length of steel was flying through the air at his chest. Lucky for him, he spotted the glinting metal before it was too close to dodge. Jumping to the left, the blade passed through the cloth of his loose shirt, not even nicking the skin beneath.
"Oy! Sybil, I like the ladies and no doubt deserve to be slapped by a few, but really! I don't think I've ever done anything bad enough to deserve a dagger through the heart!" the man's voice echoed in astonishment, his eyes were wide in disbelief as he stared at the two pirates before him
"Darby! Why the heck are ye hiding in the shadows?!" Sybil demanded, though there was a lightness to her voice that made Jane smile. This was the way of Captain Sybil and her crew, there was a reason why so many wished to join the Mystic's Dream and Jane was thrilled to have been chosen to do just that.
"Waitin' for you. There are guardsmen, down by the docks. They've taken the dingy and the crew hostage," he explained, stepping out of the shadows, dagger in hand, "I got away, barely. What do ya wanna do about it?"
Sybil's gaze swung from the man to the docks below, her keen eyesight discerning the guardsmen on the third dock, where the small rowboat had been tied. Her crew was still in the boat, staring at the guards with cunning ingenuity, no doubt. There were few pirates who could claim intelligence as opposed to brawn, but her crew was full of them. Those three would now how to escape, but wouldn't dare until they knew their captain was safe.
"We head for the Dream, once aboard, we announce that we are safe. That will give Bone, John, and O'Connor the chance they need to escape," Jane said it lightly, taking the dagger from Darby and kneeling down to replace it in its sheath, "What do ya say Captain?"
"Aye, yer right Jane. Come Darby, let us 'borrow' a fisherman's boat," Sybil agreed readily, as Jane had come to the same conclusion as she.
Soon, they were headed toward the docks once more, ensconced in shadow as they ran. The two theives had now become three and were safer for it. Fore the guardsmen hunted two lone women, would they consider the possiblity of there being a man as well?
As they reached the edge of the docks, a horn could be heard above the crashing waves. Hooves began to descend upon their location. Jane and Sybil exchanged a glance, the jig was up and they may have to fight their way clear. Darby tapped his captain on the shoulder, indicating the boats below them. Sybil nodded, turning before the man was away. At least their ride would be waiting for them, at least, Jane hoped it would be.
Drawing their hidden weapons, both had pistols hidden in the back of their skits, they waited for the guardsman, silently praying that Darby managed to comandeer a vessel without incident.
